A 'Human' Investigator in the Nineteenth Century

The nineteenth century, a turbulent age.

New and old ideas clashed, social unrest was constant, wars spread across the world, and volcanoes and earthquakes erupted one after another... For someone who has transmigrated, arriving at this point in time is truly the worst.

Still, the nineteenth century did have its merits.

Advances in transportation, the development of industry, and the advent of electricity brought people many conveniences. Great discoveries in physics, astronomy, and biology helped humanity leave its primitive past further behind. Gold rushes and maritime trade made speculators' wallets bulge. And the strange statues, mysterious fragments, and all manner of occult knowledge unearthed around the world were enough to send the archaeologists of New England into raptures.

Well, perhaps they prefer to be called "investigators" rather than "archaeologists."

Yes, as you can see, perhaps this is not the nineteenth century you know.

In this nineteenth century, where supernatural events are frequent and heretics and evil gods are everywhere, the investigators who roam the world trying to uncover the truth behind these events generally don't meet a good end.

They fall into madness, become fools, are crippled, die, or end up wishing they were dead... Sigh, being an investigator is a dangerous job.

But then again, I'm an investigator too, and I even have a license to work for Miskatonic University.

Please don't worry about me.

After all, those indescribable beings that can reduce a human's SAN to zero are no match for me, Yog-Sothoth.
