The Little Gecko Becomes the God of Fire Abroad

The little gecko spirit Sha Ye woke up among some withered trees and discovered that he had transmigrated to the Age of Declining Magic, becoming a solitary magical creature.

Discovered by students from a comprehensive magic academy, he had potent venom, could control flames, and was good at raising bugs. From that point on, this abandoned continent welcomed its first undying Flame Demon God since the fall of the gods.

Interview Q: Lord of Fire, what do you think of the fan creations about you by the bards?

Sha Ye: I'm just a little gecko from the East! I'm not one of your Western salamander fire sprites! I raise mealworms and silkworms to eat and make clothes! I breathe fire just to roast meat!

My venom is just for self-defense and because the Miao girls asked me to! I grow all these trees so I can move into a different house every day! I...

Reporter: Thank you for your answer, Lord of Fire. Now let's return to our coverage. As everyone knows, the Lord of Fire is an Eastern fire elemental spirit. Born from the flames, he is shrouded in mysteries, just like his distant and enigmatic homeland in the East...

Sha Ye: Another day of not wanting to be a god of fire. Tired little gecko.jpg

Bards sing epic poems in his honor, mages revere him as a god of nature, witches see him as a demon to be bound, alchemists and arcane scholars call him a divine book of truth, and astrologers honor him as a constellation of fate...

The little gecko Sha Ye says: Thanks for asking. I grew flowers back home, but became a god abroad.

The CP is the academy story's protagonist, who later becomes the Flame Demon's holy son.

The story draws on a fairly narrow system of magic, so readers who want rigorous research may want to steer clear. Content-wise, it will probably blend the academy and farming genres.

The idea came from European and American legends about salamanders that live in fire. When people burned wood, the salamanders would flee in fright, so people back then thought they were born from flames. They were believed to be fireproof, highly poisonous, and capable of endless regeneration.

To some extent, this is a misinterpretation-fueled story. I thought it would be fun to write about a little gecko from Huaxia who gains spirithood abroad and gets mistaken for a fire salamander by everyone there.
