After the Educated Youth Headed to the Countryside in the Seventies

Fang Tongtong transmigrated into the body of the most beautiful girl in the residential compound, becoming an honored educated youth. Thinking of the endless farm labor ahead, Fang Tongtong declared, "I can't do it!" So, delicate and frail, Fang Tongtong decided that after going to the countryside, she would find someone strong and marry him. When she saw the son of the security squad leader, with his athletic muscles, she decided without hesitation: That's the one.

Ji Yanning, the young tyrant of the compound, had been loafing around since graduating from high school. At last, he enraged the old man at home, who shoved him onto the list of educated youths to be sent down to the countryside for reeducation by the poor and lower-middle peasants. Ji Yanning declared, "I'll make you regret this!" Defiant as ever, he also decided to marry a local once he got to the countryside, just to make his family regret it. When he saw the little daughter of the village brigade leader, his eyes lit up.

After the summer harvest, several educated youths arrived in Fengshuping Village. The village elders couldn't help exclaiming, "Goodness, why are these city kids so good-looking? Especially those two from the big cities, they're so fair and clean. The two of them are a match made in heaven."

Hearing the rumor, Fang Tongtong and Ji Yanning looked at each other, then turned away at the same time. "Whoever marries him/her will be cursed with the worst luck for eight lifetimes."

Who knew that fate would have other plans? Fang Tongtong and Ji Yanning's respective quests for love were full of obstacles, so they decided to help each other and create opportunities together. But as they kept setting things up, the son of the security squad leader and the brigade leader's daughter fell for each other, while Fang Tongtong and Ji Yanning ended up getting married too.

After they married, Fang Tongtong and Ji Yanning still bickered and fought. Everyone thought they would divorce before long, but they weathered one challenge after another: the college entrance exams, returning to the city, and finding work. They never drifted apart, and spent their whole lives side by side.

The elders of Fengshuping grinned, showing the gaps in their teeth. "I knew I was right."
