Married Three Times

The Lu family had a daughter, unrivaled in all Chang’an.

Lu Xuanwei, the cherished legitimate daughter of the Lu family, was treated like royalty and had never known hardship.

Then rebel forces laid siege to the city. Her husband Cui Rong, who had once showered her with tenderness, fled with her half-sister, leaving her and their young daughter behind to survive in a world plunged into chaos.

Later, Lu Xuanwei held the power of life and death in her hands. As Cui Rong knelt before her, wagging his tail and begging for mercy, she lifted his chin with her delicate embroidered shoe and sneered coldly. “Hah.”

The thing Cui Rong regretted most in his life was abandoning his wife at the moment of life and death. From then on, regret gnawed at him every day.

When he saw Lu Xuanwei again, she was high above him, while he knelt on the ground like a dog, begging for her pity.

All he got in return was her cold gaze.

Huo Qi was the bravest of generals. He drank only the strongest liquor and wanted only the most beautiful women.

After the city fell, he met Lu Xuanwei, famed as the most beautiful woman in the land.

Huo Qi knew then that he would never let her go.

The first time Huan Chong saw Lu Xuanwei, she was the wife of his most capable general.

The beautiful woman, with skin like snow and a face like a flower, was engraved in his heart, keeping him awake night after night.

Only after he seized her and brought her into the palace did his ravenous desire finally ease.

For her, Huan Chong was willing to turn against his ministers and give up the highest power in the land.

Note: Neither lead is a virgin. The setting is fictional, and this is an old-school, angst-ridden melodrama. Every man is trash. There is no regret-and-redemption arc. The heroine stands alone and loves no one.

Theme: Survive adversity and never give in.
