After His Country Fell, He Was Forced to Become Emperor

Tan Yin had just transmigrated into the Crown Prince of Zhao when, in the very next moment, Zhao fell. His father and mother died by self-immolation for their country, and the royal family was slaughtered by the barbarian invaders. Only thirteen-year-old Tan Yin managed to escape by sheer luck.

But it was all right. As long as he kept his head down and lived under an assumed name, he could still enjoy a peaceful life.

So Tan Yin fled to an inconspicuous little village in the south and became an ordinary villager, ready to live an ordinary life alongside all the other ordinary villagers... Except that was not what happened!

Will someone tell him why that honest, simple farmer is growing weapons in his fields?

And why does that frail scholar who leans on the wall as he walks have military treatises tucked inside his Analects?

And why is that trembling old man with a cane studying maps of the northern campaign all day?

...The other villagers are just as outrageous in their own ways.

Only then did Tan Yin realize he had stumbled into a den of rebels, all of them scheming day and night to launch a northern campaign and restore Zhao.

Tan Yin was on the verge of tears. "The entire Zhao royal family is dead. What are you trying to restore? Wouldn't it be better to keep your heads down?"

The farmer spat. "Bah, traitor!"

The scholar cursed. "Bah, you shameless scoundrel!"

The old man raised his cane to whack Tan Yin. "Bah... Huh? Why do you look so much like the Zhao royal family?"

Tan Yin cried out in alarm. "I don't!"

The farmer said, "I have a bold idea."

The scholar said, "So do I."

The old man said, "Pretend to be the missing Crown Prince, and we'll launch our northern campaign in his name!"

Tan Yin: "..."

And so, surrounded by the rebels, Tan Yin pretended to be the Crown Prince of Zhao. They stockpiled grain and troops, then fought their way out of Huguang and reclaimed their lost lands.
