[Western Crossover] Starting Out with a Sherlock Holmes Secret Identity

"Ta-da! Welcome to The Heroic Spirit Simulator Whose Goal Is Somehow to Save the World. This game is based on the Type-Moon mobile game universe. New players will receive a super starter pack and may select any character as their starting card before the game begins."

"In this game, you'll experience truly unique superhero maps, with a high degree of freedom, while..."

"Sherlock Holmes."

"...Pardon?"

"I said, for my starting character, I choose Sherlock Holmes."

To play a role is to deceive. It is a trick, a mask, a fog that conceals the truth and confuses the enemy. The more one tries to hide the truth, the more one must understand it. Yue Shui Qian Ri Si, a young detective, had decided on her first card the moment she was chosen.

It was, so to speak, the revelation of truth.

Though she only knew a little about the Type-Moon universe, thanks to her friend's recommendations, Yue Shui Qian Ri Si was familiar with some of its characters.

"A friendly reminder: the starter pack lets you freely choose powerful characters such as Gilgamesh, Old Man of the Mountain, Artoria Pendragon, Merlin, and the First Emperor (alternate-world version). Are you sure you want Sherlock Holmes?"

"Without a doubt."

Under normal circumstances, this would be a very sensible choice. But, as we said, that was under normal circumstances.

Even in the original Type-Moon game, the concept of "Sherlock Holmes" wasn't exactly safe, let alone in a game merely "based on" it.

After all, your Sherlock Holmes doesn't have to be Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes.

This is a story about a protagonist who thinks she's clever, only to turn the difficulty from normal to hell.
