Fu Sihang, a special training instructor at the maritime rescue center, is laid-back and easygoing. But whenever he faces Shen Xingwan, the newly transferred marine conservation officer, he's always cold and distant.

The rest of the team speculated among themselves again and again, but never figured out why.

During a team-building trip at sea, they unexpectedly learned that the two had graduated from the same school.

A teammate teased them: "Wow, you went to the same school? Did you know each other?"

Shen Xingwan replied calmly, "I don't really remember him."

Fu Sihang leaned against the railing, his rugged features cast in shifting light and shadow by the moon. His eyes were deep and unreadable.

After the trip, in a cramped spot at the stern,

Fu Sihang cornered Shen Xingwan against the cabin wall and smiled faintly. "You don't really remember me?"

His voice carried the salty tang of the sea breeze, with a domineering edge that left no room for refusal. "Dare to look me in the eye and say that again?"

At graduation season, the farewell banquet for their teachers was filled with laughter and chatter. Soda bottles clinked, and the din nearly lifted the roof.

During a game of Truth or Dare, Fu Sihang was picked. "Sihang, what's the thing you hate most?"

Fu Sihang toyed with the lighter in his hand, its flame flickering in and out. He curled his lips and said coldly, "Probably the sea."

Everyone fell silent.

Everyone knew that the sea was the favorite thing of his rumored girlfriend who had left without a word.

Many years later,

Shen Xingwan went out to sea for an ecological survey and was caught in a rare storm, stranded offshore.

A rescue ship came speeding toward her, its bow lights blazing white as they cut through the thick darkness.

Backlit, the man, soaked to the skin, pulled her into a life jacket. His body heat crossed seven years of silence. "Hold on tight. Don't look at the sea again. Look at me."

When they met again, he was protecting the very sea she loved most.

"Let me be a beacon on the sea, guiding you home. I'll protect the ocean, and keep watch over you."
