Videos Connect the Past and Present: From the Start, Ranking the Ten Greatest Emperors

Liu Huan is a single guy who’s unemployed straight out of college. While watching a video edited by a clickbait account, he makes a snarky comment and gets bound to the Myriad Worlds Projection System. Thinking about how those historical figures would react to videos spoiling their own stories, Liu Huan can’t help wearing a mysterious smile. … On that day, across all ages and parallel worlds, golden light burst across the skies and slowly formed a line of familiar text. [A countdown of history’s ten greatest emperors,] Great Qin. The First Emperor, Ying Zheng, nods with satisfaction. “The Zhou dynasty lasted eight hundred years. Great Qin built the Great Wall and the Lingqu Canal, abolished enfeoffment and established commanderies and counties... Surely our dynasty deserves a thousand years of rule, at the very least?” He strokes his beard and smiles, deeply pleased. Huh?? The Myriad Worlds fall silent as they watch comments from Qin Shi Huang float across the screen. Then everyone makes a startling discovery: their own comments can appear on the “immortal’s” screen, too. After a brief silence, the Myriad Worlds erupt into a frenzy. … As the videos count down historical figures, Liu Huan also introduces the ancestors of each dynasty to modern life. Its radically different ideas and way of living immediately capture the interest of people from every era. A map of the world, a car? Fried chicken? Descendants, can you provide some sketches? I’ll have the artisans make them at once! Across a thousand years, ideas and technology from past and present flow together and collide. What changes will new ideas and technologies bring to each dynasty? What hilarious stories will unfold when people from the upper and lower reaches of history’s river meet through the System? What kind of bearing did the greatest emperor of all time possess? And just how extraordinary was the peerless empress? Liu Huan: Our ancestors devoted their lives to China, yet never got to see this prosperous age with their own eyes. System: Anything is possible. Liu Huan: ??? What do you mean? System: Guess. Liu Huan: !!! Could it be...? Note: 1. Every dynasty had countless outstanding figures, and many could make the list. There are a thousand different lists in a thousand people’s eyes. This is a self-indulgent work, and the author has taken plenty of liberties with major figures such as Qin Shi Huang, Emperor Wu of Han, Emperor Yang of Sui, and the Hongwu Emperor. If that bothers you, proceed with caution. 2. This is not a traditional countdown novel. The pacing is a little slow, with a touch of fantasy and a laid-back, farming-life vibe. 3. The author isn’t a history major, and the sources consulted can’t be absolutely precise. History buffs looking for rigorous research should give this a miss. If it’s not to your taste, please move on. If you disagree, you’re right. No flame wars or personal attacks! 4. The comments section has been closed because some readers insulted and cursed at others. As stated above, if it’s not to your taste, please move on. The author welcomes constructive feedback, but anyone bringing a lot of hostility should stop trying to get attention in the comments. Theme: One China, one dream.
