A Late Betrothal Is Worth Less Than Grass

After thirteen years as a beggar, Feng Yingdeng returns and becomes a noblewoman of a prestigious family overnight.

Her parents and elders all feel deeply guilty toward her. The emperor and empress even decree that she must honor her childhood betrothal.

Feng Yingdeng herself doesn't care, but her betrothed looks down on her and can't do anything about the engagement.

She throws her weight around and injures a duke's son. The duke and his wife take her to court, and she gets a caning.

Her father wants to teach her, but has no idea how. Her betrothed offers a suggestion: send her to read more books.

Feng Yingdeng: ...

Feng Yingdeng has no friends at school. Her fake heiress sister, Feng Yingzhu, gets along with everyone.

Her betrothed looks down on her, too. The things he says to her most often are, "What a waste" and "That's like playing a lute to a cow."

Feng Yingdeng: If you've got the guts, break off the engagement.

Betrothed: No way.

Feng Yingdeng: ... Just you wait.

Then she waits and waits. Her fake sister stands up for her and gives her all kinds of advice she's never heard before.

Her betrothed won't admit it, but he actually takes good care of her.

The fake sister's wish: to become the richest person under heaven. Men are just seasoning.

The betrothed's hope: Feng Yingdeng could be a little more obedient. I still like her.

Feng Yingdeng: This isn't how things were supposed to go at all!!!
