[Jackie Chan Adventures] Let Go When It's Time

People have to learn to be independent. They can't stay attached to the past.

So when Apu saw his boss getting all cozy with that old statue, he promptly chose to abandon the dark side and join the good guys.

People have to learn to let go and know what they want.

When Apu learned that studying magic wouldn't get him that shadow army, he gave up... Apu's dad grabbed him by the ear and made him keep at it.

People have to learn to move on. They can't keep pestering someone forever.

But a ninja army really does look insanely cool. So he might as well keep wearing this mask.

[A young man repeatedly crosses species and fields for the sake of the ninja army he dreams of]

P.S. [I loved the Shadowkhan episode with Jade when I was a kid. Those nonhuman ninjas were so cool.]

Third-person narration. The other book with the same title is written in first person. Feel free to check it out. The stories are different.
