On the night after their final exams, the neighbor came over to ask Tang Xi why Chen Xiyan hadn't come home.
Tang Xi put down her backpack, unwrapped a piece of candy, popped it into her mouth, and headed out again.
In a little alley far from home, she saw Chen Xiyan squatting nearby with a smile, talking after beating two people to the ground.
She stood silently at the alley entrance. When the boy saw her, the smile on his face instantly froze.
The streetlight cast a warm yellow glow over his hair. His smile faded, and he lowered his eyelashes to avoid Tang Xi's gaze.
Tang Xi walked over and tossed a piece of candy beside him.
"Let's go home."
Chen Xiyan hurriedly caught the candy, unwrapped it, and popped it into his mouth. Then he stood and quickly followed behind the girl.
Their shadows stretched long beneath the streetlight. Their voices drifted from far away, growing indistinct.
"...Didn't you say you weren't going to look after me anymore?"
"...Shut up."

After they got together, one day her coworkers suggested going out to eat after work. On the way there, Tang Xi's phone kept ringing.
A coworker asked if something had happened at home.
Tang Xi smiled and replied, "The puppy at home can't be without me. I have to go check on him."
She said goodbye to her coworkers, and the moment she got home, she was enveloped in a hug.
Tang Xi patted the man's back soothingly. "Didn't you say the puppy was hungry?"
Chen Xiyan sniffed her, then buried his face in the crook of her shoulder, looking dejected and upset. His voice was low and hoarse. "I'm the puppy. I'm hungry."
"Then bark."
"Woof."
"Tang Xi, could you like me a little too?"
* Both are each other's first love. No intimate scenes before they come of age.
* The male lead has a secret crush on the female lead. At first, she thinks she likes the second male lead, but she'll soon realize she doesn't.
