After Marrying the Jealous Ghost King First, We Fell in Love

[A pitiful little thing being "exploited" every day vs. an arrogant, lovesick, greedy, lustful Ghost King]

When Nie Luo was seven, she fell into a pond. After she was rescued, she lost her seven spirit souls.

The village teacher arranged her engagement to an unnamed ancestral tablet, saving her life. But there was a condition: she had to marry an evil ghost, or she would suffer eternal ruin.

Little Nie Luo was forced to become engaged to an unmarked grave deep in the mountains.

Inside the bridal sedan chair, Nie Luo nestled in a soft embrace as a woman whose face she couldn't make out coaxed her to sleep. The woman chuckled softly and promised, "I'll come for you on your twentieth birthday."

·

Later, Nie Luo got into the capital's university, a thousand miles from home, and left Shanhai Town.

But every night, she could hear someone moaning in her ear.

After being pinned down by a ghost countless times, Nie Luo opened her eyes and saw a woman with a blurry face.

In her dreams, she and the woman were intimate.

The woman's voice was teasing and light as she coaxed, "Nie Luo, that's not enough. A little deeper."

·

During summer break, Nie Luo secretly returned to her village for her older sister's wedding.

The day before the wedding was Nie Luo's twentieth birthday. Yet her parents, weeping, locked her in a room and hired more than a dozen relatives to stand guard outside with cleavers.

As soon as midnight struck, a chilly wind swept through. Nie Luo thought she heard a woman outside calling her name.

"Nie Luo, I've come for you."

The door flew open. A group of paper figures dressed in red and green came in to do Nie Luo's hair and makeup, then shoved her straight into the bridal sedan chair meant for her sister's wedding.

The sedan chair carried Nie Luo into the bridal chamber. She tried to struggle, but the ghost pinned her down, leaving her unable to move.

The footsteps outside drew closer and closer. Trembling, Nie Luo asked, "Who are you?"

A pale, slender hand with distinct knuckles slowly lifted her veil. "I'm your wife."

·

Nie Luo thought that after marrying a female ghost, she would have her yang energy drained and die a gruesome death.

But the horror she had imagined never came to pass. Her ghost bride was unexpectedly gentle instead.

Nie Luo thought to herself, She's a good ghost.

Later, after the ghost dragged her by the ankle into the bed curtains for the umpteenth time, Nie Luo broke down and shouted,

"I don't want to serve you anymore! Just drain all my yang energy already!"

The female ghost licked her glistening, bright-red lips. "But isn't that exactly what I'm... doing?"
