The Beloved Three-Inch Flower Sprite

My name is Dan Ling, and I'm a little flower spirit.

When I was very, very small, not even as big as a human hand, my senior brothers and sisters found me in the middle of a sunflower.

They all called me Little Sun, saying I was warm and adorable. I thought so too.

After that, I sat on the shoulder of my ethereal eldest senior brother as we flew on a sword; I clung to the back of my dashing second senior brother as we soared through the sky and raced across the earth; and I nestled in the arms of my gentle, beautiful eldest senior sister as we explored the ocean.

Oh, and there was also my quiet, exceptionally handsome junior senior brother. I loved sneaking into Master's room with him to steal spirit pills, side by side.

Whenever Master's beard bristled with rage and he yelled at us, but couldn't catch up, my junior senior brother looked so handsome when he smiled.

I was perfectly happy to steal all of Master's spirit pills if it meant I could see him smile often. Really.

Then, when I was three, those so-called righteous gentlemen picked a fight for no reason. They slandered my little senior brother Cangming, claiming he was born a demon seed, and wanted to gang up on him and kill him. So I opened my mouth and swallowed them all.

I didn't expect my senior brothers and sisters, who usually doted on me, to line up and take turns smacking my bottom, telling me to spit them out and that I shouldn't eat dirty things.

Only then did everyone find out that I was a man-eating flower...
