"You've probably heard of parallel worlds. In some, you might be a teacher; in others, you might have superpowers. Maybe in a high-tech world, you'd pilot a Gundam..."

"And in a world of yokai, ghosts, strange phenomena, and demons, it's perfectly normal for Oreki Houtarou to become the God of Wisdom in a parallel world through his powers of deduction."

"But as a god who can't even fight, he sometimes gets his eldest sister shouting at him when he tries to resolve conflicts between yokai and humans: 'You need a bodyguard.'"

Oreki Houtarou told it as it was.

"It'll take three months for [Mirror] to copy your double as my bodyguard. You just need to stay here for three months. Once it's collected enough data, I can ask [Butterfly] to send you home."

Twenty-one-year-old Toji Zenin thought for half a second, then scoffed disdainfully. "But I'm a good person. How do you know my physique will work the same way in this world?"

"[Mirror]'s power will help convert it."

"So, how about a deal? Heavenly Restriction who travels through time and space." Oreki Houtarou held out his hand, waiting for a handshake.

I always thought my life would probably just go on like that. Maybe I'd die in a casino one day, or live in a daze until white spots appeared on my face. I had no goals or worth. I guess sometimes I couldn't even bring myself to agree that life was worth living. As long as I had enough money, that was all that mattered.

That is, until I escaped that disgusting world. That disgusting world of cursed techniques.

"All I have to do is listen to your boring deductions every day to stay in this world?"

"You've got it wrong. I only need your double to stay here. And I need a bodyguard, not a host trying to seduce my snow woman."

If you need meaning in your life, go into the night and find the person who will explore the way forward with you.

Being by this person's side isn't a place of refuge. It's an incomprehensible, blood-pumping adventure. It's only deduction, so why can't I approach it calmly?

# But the two really do look alike. They both have black hair and green eyes. They might be similar enough that they think they're dating, while the yokai uncle next door thinks they're brothers getting along well.

# Content warnings:

1. This Toji Zenin hasn't met Megumi's mother yet.

2. It has nothing to do with the plot of In/Spectre, though it uses its setting. The deductions are my own, so some plot holes are inevitable.

3. The Jujutsu Kaisen characters don't appear in the main story, only in extras. The main setting is a heavily modified Hyouka world.

4. It's chaste, with no top or bottom roles. The relationship is hard to define: one-third romance, one-twelfth familial affection, one-quarter chaotic friendship, and one-third reliance and dependence.

It has the vibe of a detective x best assistant (?)
