After Transmigrating into a Book, I Mistook the Villain

[This was my first fantasy novel, completed around the time I signed my contract. The prose is amateurish, there's little romance and it comes relatively late, so read with caution.]

One day, Sui Ning transmigrated into a book. When she opened her eyes, she found herself at the scene of someone else's assassination.

A man in white was covered in blood, a long sword in his hand.

He was her assigned target, Xie Changzhou.

Xie Changzhou was the original novel's greatest villain. His looks were breathtaking, but he was a genuine black-hearted schemer who stirred up chaos until the cultivation world was in turmoil.

So Sui Ning was chosen to stop the villain from going dark.

To get home, Sui Ning worked tirelessly on her missions: she saved his life, treated his injuries, and accompanied him in searching for medicine and an antidote.

At last, when the mission was complete and the portal home appeared before her eyes, Sui Ning excitedly slung her little bundle over her shoulder and said goodbye to the villain.

"I'm leaving. Be a good person from now on."

Unexpectedly, the man who had always been refined and upright smiled, his voice gentle.

"Ningning, where are you going?"

The System, which had already disappeared, hurriedly came back online. "Host, the transmigration bureau made a mistake. Xie Changzhou isn't the villain. He's the male lead!"

Sui Ning: "...Your bureau has really done a number on me."

*

Xie Changzhou met a woman when he was in dire straits. Everyone wanted him to sit high above them as the Sword Venerable Yubai. She alone hoped he would come down and simply be Xie Changzhou.

She saved his life, stayed with him while he was being detoxified, and kept reminding him to be a good person.

At first, he was merely exasperated. He cared for all living things, so how could anyone say he was bad?

Later, he only wanted to become a little worse, so he could keep her by his side without any reservations.

For life after life, never to part.

Three-sentence synopsis:

[What do you do when you chose the wrong person to win over?]

[What do you do when the gentle and clear-minded Sword Venerable goes out of character after you mistakenly win him over?]

[And what do you do when the System tells you to set the crooked male lead straight again?]

Reader's guide:

1. The romance comes later; the early part focuses more on the plot.

2. The book the heroine transmigrates into is a male-lead-centered story. There is no original heroine, and it is a sweet romance.

Theme: Live earnestly and never give in.
