1) Yu Shi first met Zhou Yuye in the sweltering summer of their first year of high school, when the cicadas screamed like mad. Balancing on one leg, she locked eyes with a boy crouched behind the bushes, pondering the meaning of life.

From then on, there was no turning back.

She’d thought Zhou Yuye was nothing but a handsome, arrogant jerk who used his looks to get away with anything.

But the very next day, she had to eat her words: this guy was the rumored math genius who’d just transferred into Class One.

Yu Shi sighed. Life really did have its differences.

You couldn’t judge people by appearances alone.

As the genius was late or left early every day, students all over school spread rumors about which tutoring center he was sneaking off to.

But the very next day, she saw the center of everyone’s gossip in the little shop downstairs.

The lean-backed boy lounged at the counter, his legs stretched out, his back against the wall. His long-fingered hands swiftly turned a Rubik’s Cube. At the sound of her approaching, he lifted his eyes and looked at her coolly. “Here to check out?”

Recognizing her face, he spoke again in the same flat, emotionless voice.

“You go to Cuizhen?”

“What’s your name?”

2) She’d thought the two of them would spend their days at odds, unable to stand each other. But one dewy, chilly morning...

The boy suddenly pulled her into a tight embrace. His heartbeat thundered louder and louder beneath his chest, and in a low voice, he confessed with utmost sincerity:

“Yu Shi, I like you. I really, really like you.”

Only then did she realize his feelings had already grown as scorching as midsummer.

But the campus couple everyone envied still ended up going their separate ways.

Two years after they broke up, Zhou Yuye heard that Yu Shi might have a new boyfriend.

On the surface, he seemed calm and said it was fine as long as she was happy.

But before a day had passed, he couldn’t stand it any longer and flew back to the country overnight.

The day he reunited with Yu Shi, Zhou Yuye cornered her in a narrow nook. Their classmates chattered on the other side of the wall. He was usually so cool and self-assured, but now he ignored everything around them, holding her close and kissing her until they were both breathless.

The boy’s hot, hurried breaths brushed her ear as he asked over and over in a husky voice, “So, are you satisfied now?”

Content warnings: 1) This is very sweet with no major angst, like a small-town fairy tale. The characters are all sixteen or seventeen, and their romance is childish and puppyish. The style is playful and silly, so please don’t read it if that isn’t your thing! This novel is quite long, so I strongly advise against buying the whole thing upfront. It’s safer to buy as you go! If it’s not for you, just close the page and leave!

2) A meeting of minds between genius teenagers. It’s an ensemble story with a slow build, so take note! Take note! This is an ensemble story! The supporting cast gets a lot of page time early on, so don’t read it if you can’t handle that!

3) The author works hard and is sensitive, so please be kind. If you don’t like it, quietly exit.

After he’d “driven a wedge” between them in every way he could, the two finally broke up.

Xu Zeshou got his wish and took the boyfriend’s place.

When Lu Lu’s ex learned the truth, he came over and furiously confronted Xu Zeshou. He called him utterly shameless and punched him.

Xu Zeshou didn’t care. He let the other man hit him, then lowered his head and gave a lazy laugh. “So what?”

He watched Lu Lu coming downstairs to look for him. His smile faded, and his tone turned inscrutable.

“She’s so beautiful. I’m the only one who’ll cherish her properly.”

“As for you, she doesn’t love you anymore.” Xu Zeshou lifted his head slightly and stared at the furious man, his expression cool as he enunciated each word. “So get lost.”

Then he turned, stopped Lu Lu, and deliberately covered his bruised mouth, pretending to be hurt as he told her he was fine. Furious, Lu Lu slapped her ex and led Xu Zeshou away.

Xu Zeshou even turned back to flash the ex a triumphant smile. His shamelessness drove the former boyfriend mad.

3) Xu Zeshou once named his plan to win Lu Lu over “The Beauty’s Strategy.”

At first, he focused all his efforts on scheming.

Later, as he pursued her, he gradually realized he’d been getting his priorities wrong.

When it came to Lu Lu, what mattered most wasn’t strategy. It was beauty.

His little fairy was infatuated with his looks.

But really, she was the one who was unbelievably beautiful.

“Why does the newcomer win? Because they’re the one who fights and grabs.”

1) The male lead doesn’t have a strong moral compass, but he’s no villain.

2) The male lead falls for the female lead at first sight. It’s a wish-fulfillment romance, so don’t overthink the details.

3) You could call it the story of a male homewrecker taking the boyfriend’s place.
