Why is he more doglike than an actual dog?! I angrily wriggled around in his arms, then turned my head and joined the Dog Lovers Association in protest. Do dogs have no rights at all?! 3. About the Samoyed who suddenly appeared and gave him an odd reputation overnight on the Port Mafia forum. Dark Era Dazai: Hah. Stupid dog, stay away from me. Some time later. Dark Era Dazai: So dumb it's funny. I'll tease it a little. (Meaning the three-in-the-morning river dives and fur-pulling.) And then. Dark Era Dazai: ...Oh no. I'm kind of into this. One day, watching the Samoyed get lured away with a piece of candy. Dark Era Dazai: ? Who kidnapped my dog again??? [Reader's guide] 1. The companion said their name was "Shirakawa Yaya," and they were exactly the kind of person Tsushima Shuji disliked most. --Naive and straightforward, like they couldn't understand the complicated workings of people's hearts. The kind of fool who could enthusiastically run up to him the first time they met and say, "I like you so much!" Tsushima Shuji merely chuckled and pressed the other's hat down a little, so no one would see the pair of fluffy ears that had just popped out. "I've got nothing better to do, so if this dog is obedient enough, I don't mind keeping it." Later, when the youngest and cleverest heir of the Tsushima family ran away from home, he took nothing with him. Only a little snow-white Samoyed followed, yipping and whining. * There was a piece of news everyone in the underworld knew without needing to say it. The youngest executive of the Port Mafia always had the most loyal dog by his side. --More frighteningly, this was a "dog" capable of building heavy weapons. The Mafia executive, who had long since changed his name to Dazai Osamu, had nothing to say. He scoffed and deliberately pressed a little harder as he applied medicine to the other's wounds. "You work in research. What are you doing coming along to a shootout with me?" As sincere as ever, the other person gave him a halfhearted answer: "I can take a bullet for you, Dazai! I'm not doing this for nothing." Dazai: . If that dog hadn't blocked all 16 of his attempted suicide methods during the shootout, as though it could see the future, he might actually have believed it. The feared Mafia executive sighed. Never mind. Let it be. * Until one day, they had a fight. It was the first time they'd ever had such a serious falling-out. Dazai Osamu had never seen the other so angry. They couldn't stop crying, but stubbornly insisted, "I'm really mad! I won't forgive you so easily this time, Dazai!" "I'm running away from home!!" But neither of them expected what happened next. The instant Shirakawa Yaya stepped outside Yokohama, the scenery around them suddenly changed. When they opened their eyes again... ...it was already four years later. * "Dazai-senpai really hates dogs. He even goes as far as fighting them over dog food." Nakajima Atsushi, who had recently joined the Armed Detective Agency, shuddered at the thought. Ranpo raised an eyebrow beside him but said nothing. Until one day. Nakajima Atsushi saw Dazai-senpai, who was usually flippant, skipped work every day, but could always be relied upon when it mattered, staring in one direction as if stunned and unable to believe what he was seeing. Dazai-senpai walked over and knelt beside a filthy Samoyed. His bandage-wrapped hand, trembling almost imperceptibly, touched the lame leg of what was probably a stray dog. "...You're back." Nakajima Atsushi heard his low voice, so careful it was as if he didn't want to wake something. "Let's go home." Nakajima Atsushi learned later. --That person had been part of Dazai-senpai's life for nearly its entire first half, the one and only exception. ★ [Reader's guide] 1.
