Moonlight on the West Tower [Two Madmen]

Jiang Yunjin was ambushed by bandits on her way to marry into another kingdom. While her escort rescued her dowry, they also saved a young boy.

At sixteen, he had a handsome face, but his deep amber eyes were sharp and profound, like an eagle soaring over the grasslands.

It was not until the night Jiang Yunjin married the elderly Chanyu of Western Qin that the boy launched a night raid on the Chanyu. Bright red blood dripped onto the wick of the red candle as the two gazed at each other across its wavering light.

Only then did she learn that the boy was the youngest prince under the aging Chanyu, Helan Hui.

Jiang Yunjin kicked aside the massive corpse. "Why did you help me?"

Helan Hui answered bluntly, "I want something."

After that, Helan Hui advanced step by step, clearing every obstacle and ascending the throne. At the very moment he reached the pinnacle of power, he locked a pair of shackles around Jiang Yunjin's wrists.

He really did want something. In Western Qin, it was customary for a son to inherit his father's wife.

Jiang Yunjin was proud to her very core. Helan Hui thought that if he had enough patience, he could keep her by his side and confine her in a dark chamber.

But in the end, in their game of cat and mouse, he was the one Jiang Yunjin tied behind a horse and dragged all the way back to Great Liang.

Shackles and chains, every last one of them, bound his freedom.

Jiang Yunjin gripped his chin and yanked him toward her. The iron chains clinked sharply. "Perhaps I forgot to tell you, Your Highness also wants something."

As her words fell, her vermilion lips pressed against his, and a spark became a raging fire.
