[I can’t seem to write anything I’m satisfied with, so I’m taking a break for now. I’m sorry for the disappointing experience for those following the updates.]
Li Xian is banished to the mortal realm and becomes an unlucky divine official in a desolate mountain region. Heaven orders him to farm, and he’s not allowed to return until he grows a successful crop.
He laments his terrible luck, then unexpectedly awakens a delicious-crops System.
System: “Go plant, and cultivate your own undefined fields!”
Li Xian: “?”
The area around Wei Mountain has always been poor. So many rats have starved to death that anyone who can move away does.
But now Wei Mountain is bustling with people, and the villagers are rosy-cheeked and have plenty of strength for farm work.
Li Xian’s food shop, opened with help from the System, has become famous far and wide. Even divine officials come down from Heaven to visit.
Customers crowd together in line outside, while the divine officials wonder who owns the shop. They never expect to see a familiar face.
Isn’t that the one who was banished to farm in the middle of nowhere?!
A great drought devastates the land, and famine breaks out across the country. The arrival of a “God of Grain” saves the people.
The food grown by young Master Li is plentiful and delicious, and the dishes at his restaurant are as fragrant as they are tasty. He’s also kind enough to take in a red fox.
The little fox ignores everyone else but fawns on the immortal, acting cute and clingy. When strangers come by, it even hides in Li Xian’s arms, looking utterly helpless.
Until one day, the divine officials who once framed Li Xian surround his shop, disguised and brandishing sharp blades. “Heaven won’t tolerate someone like you. We’ve been sent to purge you.”
Just as the blade is about to reach him, a flash of fiery red darts past, followed by a string of terrified screams.
The little fox, now in human form, grips the other man’s throat with one hand. His knuckles turn white and veins stand out, as if he’s about to tear the man’s head right off.
“I don’t recall ever saying that.”
Only then does Li Xian learn that the little fox who loves to cuddle up to him is the executioner feared by every divine official in Heaven.
The young man looks at him guiltily, clutching the tip of his snowy white tail, and says pitifully, “Master, my tail is dirty.”
*Bonus Scene:
After all the customers have left, Li Xian dozes off in the shop. A warm, ticklish sensation suddenly brushes against his leg.
The little fox is crouched beside his feet, his soft tail wrapped around Li Xian’s calf.
Li Xian rubs the little fox’s head. “Good boy. Let go.”
The handsome young man appears in human form behind him, rests his head on Li Xian’s shoulder, and wraps his arms around his waist. “I don’t want to.”
