Dan Shao transmigrated into a book.
She became the new bride of a prince, a side-character foil in an old-fashioned novel and the future villain.
According to the plot, on her wedding night a roof beam would fall on her and leave her foolish. She would then suffer through one calamity after another alongside the male side character, before dying while taking a blade for him.
Right now, she was in the bridal chamber, where an accident was about to happen.
"..." Danger!
Dan Shao managed to leave the bridal chamber, but accidentally fell into the future villain's arms. She had no choice but to make an excuse: "Your Highness, I'm afraid of the dark~"
She thought the seemingly cold and unfeeling man would push her away and lecture her about behaving with the dignity befitting a princess. Instead, he pulled her into his arms and held her tightly.

Ling Yan, meanwhile, dreamed that he died the day before he was crowned emperor.
Though he could sometimes catch glimpses of the future, the results of all his efforts were always snatched away by his lucky younger brother, as if that were only natural. It had always been that way.
Until he caught his new bride, dressed in her wedding robes, just as she nearly fell. Reality overlapped with the faded memories of his dream: the girl's dress was stained red with blood, and her innocent, childlike eyes brimmed with tears. Though she was timid and afraid, she threw herself in front of him to take a blade, then asked in a thread of a voice whether he was hurt.
His heart suddenly ached, again and again.
He was infamous, and everyone else avoided him, yet someone had always cherished him like a treasure. Fortunately, none of it had begun yet. As if making a vow, he promised Dan Shao, "Don't be afraid. I'll protect you."
He would defy fate, even if it cost him his life.

Everyone in the capital knew that Prince Shun Ling Yan was born under an unlucky star and brought misfortune wherever he went.
After getting married, Prince Shun did many baffling things: he bought a manor just to raise chickens, ducks, geese, and pigs so his princess could eat well; he dug wells everywhere just because his princess thought the water tasted strange...
Everyone waited for him to meet with disaster, while the original novel's hero and heroine were ready to boost their reputations at any moment. But Prince Shun's life only got better, and his princess, Dan Shao, produced one "auspicious omen" after another. They waited and waited, until the day the ministers called out "Long live the prince!" in unison.
The original novel's hero and heroine: Where did all my opportunities go???
[Reading Tips]
1. The author writes in an old-fashioned style, to whatever degree they feel like.
2. The wording is very basic, and the setting is quite vague. The author is tentatively dipping a toe into the edges of romance. The first three chapters are the author's best work. Important note: The male lead's point of view in the second paragraph of the blurb is almost certainly not in the main text.
Theme: Live well even in adversity
