[The completed sweet novella in my column: Stars in the Daytime]
Some of the later plot details have been changed, so I've revised the blurb!
[Blurb]
Since making her debut at a modeling pageant at the age of twenty, Li Yuan has been embraced by the fashion world for her stunning looks and distinctive aura.
Born into a wealthy family and cherished by her relatives, she has the halo of "the most beautiful second-generation star." She considers herself used to seeing beauty everywhere and has impossibly high standards for a partner, but at an auction one day, she is dazzled by a face of unparalleled beauty.
The owner of that face is like a flower atop a high peak, aloof and unapproachable. Li Yuan only meant to admire him from afar, but accidentally "followed" him into the men's restroom and ended up mortified right in front of him.
The embarrassment goes straight to Li Yuan's head. She just wants to move to another solar system on the spot!
Later, a newcomer in the industry whom she had once helped out of kindness says she wants to introduce Li Yuan to a boyfriend. Before long, she brings a handsome man who seems familiar to meet her.
The memories she thought were dead come flooding back. After staring at the handsome man for a few seconds, Li Yuan nearly digs herself a three-bedroom apartment in the floor. Out of politeness, she holds out until the meal is over, then hurries away, not daring to look at him again.
Not long after she gets home, a friend request appears on her phone: Hello, Miss Li Aimei. I'm Yu Shu's brother, Feng Yuzhou.
Li Yuan accepts before she can think: Thanks, my name is Li Yuan :)
Feng Yuzhou: Okay, Miss Li Yuan :)
Before she got together with Feng Yuzhou, Li Yuan thought of him as the moon in the sky, snow on a mountaintop. He was beautiful, but just a passing figure in her life. After their brief, faint connection, she thought there would be no future between them.
But he tells her in person, "If we can't avoid the so-called differences between us, they won't be differences in status or position. I love you, and I hope to win your favor. That's all. You don't need to look up at me like I'm some lofty mountain or celestial body. I'll be your shield and your blade, at your service."
For the first time, she falls for a man she'd met fewer than five times.
After getting together with Feng Yuzhou, Li Yuan gradually discovers traces of him deliberately woven into her work and daily life.
At a brand event, he sneaks in through the back door to see her.
On New Year's Eve, he rushes to her, travel-worn, just to wish her a happy new year and personally give her a red envelope.
Later, even the staff around her seem in danger of being replaced by him.
Then, after accidentally learning that in Feng Yuzhou's social circle she is already his "fiancee," Li Yuan can't help wondering: "How did I go from being a perfectly happy, unmarried little fairy to having my place decided for me?"
Feng Yuzhou remains unruffled. "To make it up to you, I don't mind if you go around telling people I'm your fiance."
Li Yuan: "..." Do you hear yourself?
