Lu Yujing, daughter of a princess, was famed for her talent and as beautiful as a flower.
Born to a noble family, she had been proud and picky since childhood. The matter of finding her a husband had become a thorn in her mother's side. Just then, envoys from Beidi arrived in the capital to seek a bride on behalf of their king. Rumor had it that the Beidi people ate raw meat and drank blood, and all the daughters of the imperial clan were so frightened that they turned pale.
Unwilling to leave the capital, Lu Yujing reluctantly agreed to marry a rising star at court, Huo Lin, a mighty general from humble origins who could barely read.
Marrying such an illiterate man meant her knowledge of music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, along with her collection of famous works, would be of little use. Lu Yujing was utterly despondent, unable to imagine what she had to look forward to.
On their wedding night, Huo Lin lifted her red veil. Looking at his face, handsome as Pan An's, Lu Yujing thought that perhaps pinning her hopes on his looks wasn't such a bad idea.
The mighty General Huo Lin was a born commander, blessed with superhuman strength. After ten years in the army, he had risen from a common soldier to a general, earning every one of his illustrious victories through blood and steel. All he had ever wanted was to fight on the battlefield and die wrapped in his armor.
Who could have guessed that an imperial decree would insist he marry, and that his bride would be the pampered young lady who couldn't find a husband?
Taking a delicate noblewoman raised in luxury as his wife gave Huo Lin a headache. He was afraid that swinging a sword might scare her, and even when drinking and eating meat with his fellow officers, he worried she might disapprove.
Lu Yujing didn't disappoint him, either. After the wedding, the General's residence was turned upside down. Not only was she pampered and spoiled, she even started interfering in his personal affairs. Huo Lin sneered. Did she really think he was the sort of man who would give in so easily?
A little extra:
After marrying, the mighty General Huo Lin broke his old habit of treating the military camp as home.
As soon as his military duties were done, he hurried home. His fellow officers teased him for being henpecked, but when Huo Lin heard about it, he only sneered in contempt.
On the way home, he saw a wife scolding her husband and scoffed. "A man who fears his wife like that has no dignity."
Seeing men lining up outside a pastry shop, he sneered again. "Hmph. I'll never debase myself like that."
But when he passed a cosmetics shop, Huo Lin grabbed a servant nearby and asked, "Do you remember what color rouge Madam said she wanted this morning?"
The servant: "..."
