How About Confessing One More Time?

[Second chance at love, reunion from the very first chapter]

They ran into each other again at a bar.

Meng Qing lost a game of rock-paper-scissors with a few coworkers. Whoever lost had to ask a man within five meters for his WeChat.

After looking around, Meng Qing fixed her gaze on a man sitting alone at the next table.

He sat in an eight-seat booth, eyes lowered, wearing a black shirt and gold-rimmed glasses perched on his straight nose. He looked refined, but there was a faint air of danger about him.

As she approached, he happened to stand up.

It was Jiang Yanning, the ex-boyfriend she'd cruelly dumped three years ago.

His expression froze for a brief moment when he saw her, but otherwise remained impassive.

"What is it?" His gaze was cool, his tone even cooler.

Remembering how his voice used to sound, restrained and controlled yet full of delight, Meng Qing scoffed. "Jiang Yanning, your voice didn't used to sound like that."

After turning away, Meng Qing opened WeChat. Their chat still showed their last messages from three years ago. Unsure whether he'd deleted her, she sent him his own name, feeling guilty and in the wrong.

They met again downstairs from Meng Qing's apartment.

She looked at him coldly. "What is it?"

"You don't remember my WeChat name, but you remember my voice."

Jiang Yanning backed her against the wall, step by step. His low, hoarse voice was tinged with laughter. "Tell me what my voice used to sound like."

He lowered his head to her ear and said something in that dreamy tone of voice he only had when he was trembling.

As soon as he finished, he looked at the tips of Meng Qing's ears, red as could be, and laughed. "Why do you tremble every time?"

Meng Qing was so embarrassed that her eyes grew moist. She looked up at him, but he caught her raised hand in an instant.

"Mengmeng, we have some old scores to settle."

[You probably don't know that no one has heard this beautiful voice of mine since you left. How about I use it to confess to you now?]
