Some of the inspiration for The Shadow of the Play comes from an actor I cherish and his screen roles. "Shadow" refers both to film and television and to light and shadow, illusions, and the shadows in people's hearts. A forty-year-old man who refuses to marry out of an obsession, and a young woman who marries the wrong man in order to survive. Their feelings are there before the story even begins. In a theater troupe somewhere, the two meet and bring warmth to each other's lives.
Originally published on Douban Read (search the title to find it). I was hesitating over how to finish it, so I moved it to Jinjiang. While revising, I changed the names back to those used in the original TV series. The story borrows its character settings and appearances, but is otherwise unrelated to the original. The TV series is rather obscure. If you'd like to watch it, search for the old series Xiangfu Chunqiu, also known as Loving You Is So Hard.
Theme: A story about how to let go of an obsession with unattainable love. The heroine and hero are teacher and student, confidants, and, more than anything, each other's healing. What kind of fated encounter awaits a young woman in her early twenties married to a sixty-year-old man and a forty-year-old unmarried screenwriter whose heart has been wounded by love?
I read this in one breath, it's so exciting. I think this is not a web article and should not appear in Jinjiang. It is a literary work. It is like watching a drama... Every character is so vivid and real, showing both the beautiful side and the dark side full of selfishness and humanity. I am really looking forward to the follow-up plot.
What a stubborn and sincere girl
Wow! Beautifully written in big words!!!
