I only recently realized this could be misunderstood because I couldn't make the scene too explicit in the middle of the sex scene. The misunderstanding means I did a poor job describing it, but I can't find the passage. How can they break through the limits of their world? How can they...? How can they find a practical path forward in a universe full of superheroes? What do they want to achieve? How do they do it? How do they put it into practice? What problems will they face? How do they overcome their blind spots? What will the outcome be? And, by the way, they'll fall in love. I'm preparing a new story, Arkham Gatekeeper. The next one is about SpongeBob Nightwing and a male lead who's Squidward. A psychiatric nurse. A lonely New Yorker. He lives in a low-rent apartment in the Bronx, falling asleep to gunshots every night. The psychiatric hospital where he works is on the brink of collapse, both financially and in terms of medical care. It's either almost going bankrupt or almost killing its patients. "I heard the director bought Stark Industries stock," his best friend told him one day. His friend was the hospital's attending psychiatrist. After working at this miserable hospital for too long, he'd developed depression. "I bought some, too." His friend's face glowed with hopeful laughter, and his hopes for a better life rose with Stark Industries' stock price. "I hope we get a raise," he said. "Otherwise, I'll jump ship to Arkham." It was just a joke. "They had a riot there not long ago. It's dangerous." "But the pay is high, and they provide meals and housing." "The pay really is high. But I'd rather make a few medical mistakes here than be around those people. At least I won't die." His friend had wanted to work at Arkham before, too. That way, he wouldn't have to kill himself. Not long afterward, Tony Stark disappeared. Some time later, Tony Stark returned and announced that he was shutting down the weapons division. Stark Industries' stock plummeted. Not long after his friend went bankrupt and jumped from a building, the hospital where he worked ran out of money, and he lost his job. "It's not so bad," he said from the rooftop. "At least when you died, you weren't unemployed." He leapt from the roof. Then he cratered the ground below. This is awful. I can't just die whenever I want. Does that mean I'll have to work hard to stay alive? Three months later, he still hadn't found a job. His hospital had such a bad reputation that the hospitals willing to hire him were in expensive neighborhoods, had long commutes, and paid low wages. The places he had his eye on weren't interested in hiring him. Better to keep living badly than not live at all, he thought. Gritting his teeth, he sent his resume to Arkham. Three days later, he packed his bags and set off to work at Arkham Asylum. "Arkham Asylum welcomes you, Mr. Dylan Monk." Thesis: Develop and grow well.
