A wage-earning emperor as the recipient and a wealthy prince as the pursuer
Lin Xing was a paper effigy maker who had picked up the trade halfway through life. His creations were so ugly they were impossible to look at, so he had to wait until the dead of night to carry the botched figures to a hillside outside the city and burn them.
After doing this for several months, something strange happened: things that didn't belong to him kept appearing at his door.
The first time, it was a box of gold ingots.
The second time, a basket of pearls.
The third time, a pair of bronze wine cups.
Half a year later, a set of ancient wedding clothes appeared at his door.
Terrified, Lin Xing hurried to ask a spiritual master for help. After casting a fortune, the master put on a grave expression and said, "You've been bound in a ghost marriage. Your betrothed from the underworld is sending you betrothal gifts."

Xie Xuan was an old ghost who had wandered for a thousand years. Life in the underworld suited him just fine, but not long ago, an extraordinary supernatural event had happened to him.
He, who had been dead for a thousand years, had received offerings burned to him from the world of the living!
Absurd. Utterly absurd.
But it didn't seem right to accept someone's things without sending a gift in return, so he picked through the treasures in his underground palace and sent over a box of gold ingots.
Half a year later, Xie Xuan tearfully sent away the clothes he was wearing, too.
Who would have thought that a thousand years after dying, he'd still end up losing everything? No wonder the Taoist priest had said at his burial that he would face a great calamity a thousand years later!
On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when the gates of the underworld swung open, Xie Xuan seized the chance to visit the living world and find the man. He wanted to ask him to stop burning things, because he really couldn't afford to keep sending gifts in return.

Just back from getting his fortune told, Lin Xing opened the door and saw a male ghost sitting upright on his sofa. He jumped three feet in the air.
"Shit, you really came to marry me!"
