The Great Beauty of the Seventies

Ming Xi, a socialite from Beijing's elite circles, had fair skin, stunning looks, and long legs. She had countless admirers and was an untouchable beauty, but in the end, she was left in a forgotten corner.

She married a man she had never met. In a single night, she went from an untouchable heiress to a village woman in a barren mountain hamlet.

The man's name was Zhao Hansong. He was quiet and built like a mountain.

On their wedding night, he took off his shirt, revealing a strong, muscular torso. Eight defined abs were etched into his belly like mountain ridges and valleys. He slowly approached Ming Xi and said in a deep, ocean-like voice, "From now on, you're my wife. I'll treat you well." Those were the first words he ever said to her.

But Ming Xi, forced into the marriage, couldn't stand this mountain man.

In the days that followed, Ming Xi kept acting like a pampered heiress. She did no housework and never shared a bed with Zhao Hansong. The villagers all said the Zhao family hadn't brought home a wife so much as invited a living bodhisattva into their house.

Zhao Hansong let her be. In the dead of winter, he laid a thin quilt on the floor for himself and slept there without a word of complaint.

Later, one winter afternoon, Ming Xi ran away and froze to death in the snowy mountains. As her life ebbed away, she thought she saw a tall figure running toward her, taking hurried steps.

In a daze, she remembered the night the previous year when she had a high fever. Zhao Hansong had carried her through the darkness for twenty li, all the way to the county hospital.

Strange. In her final moments, she was thinking of all the good he had done for her.

Reborn, Ming Xi decided to treat him a little better.
