Wen Xi and his boyfriend Qu Jilin had been together for seven years. They were each other's one true love, having fallen in love at school and stayed together as they entered the working world. Their love for each other was already in their bones.
Then one day, someone named Song Zhi barged into their lives.
Song Zhi said he had transmigrated into a book and knew everything that would happen in this world.
Song Zhi said that one day Wen Xi would leave without a word and abandon Qu Jilin.
Song Zhi said he was a stand-in Qu Jilin had found because he missed Wen Xi too much, but that they would eventually fall in love. That made them the true couple.
After that, Song Zhi began pursuing Qu Jilin relentlessly, bringing him flowers, picking him up, and cooking for him, all with fiery, unrestrained passion.
Wen Xi was so jealous he was going crazy, but he pretended not to care to save face.
Then he saw how coldly Qu Jilin treated Song Zhi, and how he didn't hesitate to call the police. At last, Wen Xi slowly relaxed.
They had been lovers for seven years, each other's one true love. How could anyone easily come between them?
That was what Wen Xi told himself.
Then, on Qu Jilin's birthday, Wen Xi left work early and bought a cake to celebrate with his boyfriend. But he got into a car accident on the way.
Covered in blood, Wen Xi called Qu Jilin, but Song Zhi picked up.
The sound of running water came through the phone, followed by Qu Jilin saying, "I'm done showering."
Wen Xi smiled and hung up.
He died in the year he loved Qu Jilin most.
*
When Qu Jilin opened his eyes again, he realized he had been reborn, back at the place where he had confessed his feelings to Wen Xi.
He froze, then suddenly pulled Wen Xi into his arms and sobbed in anguish.
After a long while, the person in his arms said nonchalantly, "Can you let go? My boyfriend's coming to pick me up."
Qu Jilin's heart instantly felt as if it had been cut to pieces.
*
Everyone said the usually arrogant Qu Jilin had gone mad, bewitched by Wen Xi.
For instance, whenever anyone approached Qu Jilin, he would coldly, even roughly, push them away, then turn around and patiently explain everything to Wen Xi.
Wen Xi would only smile indifferently. "What does that have to do with me?"
Qu Jilin would silently lower his head, then persistently and ingratiatingly try to take Wen Xi by the sleeve.
And then there was the time Qu Jilin, a singer, was accused of plagiarism and the whole internet was turned against him. Anyone could tell Wen Xi was behind it.
His friends tried to talk him out of it, but Qu Jilin frantically denied it, insisting that Wen Xi loved him and that he loved Wen Xi.
They didn't know that what looked to others like a hellish abyss of hatred was something Qu Jilin gladly embraced.
He was willing to become a butterfly trapped in a cocoon, willing to be caught in the invisible web Wen Xi had woven.
But Wen Xi no longer even looked at him. Qu Jilin could only tie himself up with a rope and beg to place one end in Wen Xi's hand.
Warnings: Groveling arc, no switching tops, the bottom is a little crazy, both are reborn. Other warnings will be made up when the story begins.
