Has Amuro's Daughter Had Any Sweets Today?

[A short-to-medium-length story, probably around 200,000 words. I'll start posting once it reaches 1,000 follows.] When Anshi Amuro was five, a boy four years older than her came to live with her family. He was supposedly the child of her father's dear friend, who had died in the line of duty. Her father would raise him until he came of age, and in the meantime, he would live with them and share a home with her. The boy had a beauty that seemed to blend Western and Eastern features, with blond hair, violet eyes, and a bright, cheerful personality. He was even more handsome than the little prince in her picture books. "Saki, I hope we get along." The nine-year-old boy smiled at her, gentle and cheerful. There was something infectious about his smile, and Anshi Saki found the corners of her own mouth turning up without meaning to. An older brother...? What did it mean to have an older brother? Anshi Saki was an only child and didn't understand what role siblings played in life. But she knew her brother's hand was big and warm, and he could often make a marshmallow wrapped in pretty candy paper appear in it as if by magic. He gave her a piece of candy for all sorts of things. Whenever she ate the eggs she didn't like, bravely slept on her own, or had her name posted at the kindergarten entrance as an exemplary student, Anshi Saki would get a treat from her brother. His hand ruffled her hair, his smiling eyes, blue-violet and hazy, hidden behind his knuckles. His voice, however, was clear and light. "Saki, when you've earned 999 pieces of candy, I'll give you a present." Anshi Saki eagerly awaited that present. She carefully saved every piece of candy wrapper. When the 999th piece of candy rested in her palm, it was also the day she turned eighteen. Anshi Saki discovered that the boy who had cared for her throughout her childhood harbored the same secret she did. * Saki means "blossom." She was born in the season when the cherry blossoms bloom. And he pinned a blooming cherry blossom to the chest of his police uniform, over his heart. Reader's notes: 1. A pseudo-incest story, with the author letting loose and mutual pining. The heroine's surname is Amuro, also to set up the joke about Rei's future undercover alias. The story mainly focuses on the warmth of their sibling relationship. 2. There will be no romantic tension before they're adults! There will be no romantic tension before they're adults! There will be no romantic tension before they're adults! 3. Respect each other, discuss things kindly, and be civil in the comments. Please don't fight. I'm very good at arguing! [hands on hips.jpg] Theme: A happy family reunion
