At fifteen, Hang Xiao had no one. His father was in prison, and his mother had abandoned him and run off with someone else. His world was full of malice, and he was used to wallowing in the mud.

One evening after school, he'd just gotten into a brutal fight with a few school bullies. He stood up, enduring the pain of his injuries, when a fragrant handkerchief was held out to him.

Hang Xiao looked up, as if watching a noble princess graciously extend her hand to pull him from the mud and invite him to live in her castle.

At the time, Shi Qing was the heiress of a famous wealthy family in G City. At seventeen, she was already elegant and refined, poised and graceful, and as proud as a swan amid the murky world of high society.

Shi Qing took Hang Xiao to the Shi family home. From then on, he became someone who stayed by the heiress's side. He didn't know what he was to her, like a companion to relieve her boredom, or perhaps a quiet bodyguard.

Hang Xiao stayed obedient for years, going to school, eating well, fighting less, and getting things done, until one day Shi Qing suddenly left G City.

Shi Qing had long seen through the filth of high society. She kept her distance, hoping to stay out of it, but still became a pawn in her family's power struggle. So she left the Shi family without hesitation and set off to make her own way.

One day, Shi Qing's assistant called someone in to fix a computer. A young man in a white T-shirt was working on it with his back to her. The air conditioner blew, making the shirt cling to him and outline his firm physique.

Shi Qing was about to leave with her coffee when she heard him speak in a low, cool voice. "Your computer got wet. The motherboard shorted out."

The voice sounded familiar. His back looked even more familiar. Shi Qing stopped in her tracks, and just then, he turned around. Their eyes met.

Shi Qing felt she'd treated this kid pretty well back then. Even after she left the Shi family, she'd arranged to have money sent to him every year. After a long separation, they ought to sit down and catch up warmly. She walked over and greeted him with great familiarity. "Long time no see, Hang Xiao."

Reality didn't quite go as she hoped. Hang Xiao's expression was as cold as his voice. Breathing heavily, he stared down at her, his eyes fixed on her as if she were an enemy. He gave a cold laugh. "It sure wasn't easy to find you, Miss."

That night, the moon was beautiful. Someone poured a pool of gentle moonlight into my desolate, dark world.

The beautiful princess took me to live in her castle. I willingly submitted at her feet, becoming the most loyal knight in her kingdom.

1. A highly idealized romance. The leads are each other's only ones, body and soul.

2. It's mostly melodrama, and the wealthy-family setting is wildly exaggerated. I made it all up.

3. I wrote this because I love the pairing of a proud heiress and a loyal puppy-like male lead. This is my own little treat.
