An elegant-life, slack-off-at-work librarian bottom x an acting-prodigy, professional wife-teaser, secretly powerful top
In the apocalypse, Earth's environment has deteriorated rapidly. The few people forced to remain on the planet have become numb from competing fiercely for limited resources.
Chi Yu, the last university graduate on Earth with a history degree, is pitied by everyone around him. They think he studied a useless subject and is doomed not to survive. Yet he gladly takes a job as a librarian. There's no interview; he can start right away, because no one else is willing to do it.
Buried beneath the ruins is Earth's one and only library, the last one in existence. It's gloomy, offers terrible conditions, and must be staffed around the clock with no shift rotation. But the work itself is very easy, making it perfect for someone like Chi Yu, who just wants to drink water, read books, refuse to compete, and take it easy.
But on his very first night, Chi Yu is nearly scared unconscious.
Why are the people in the books coming to life?!
Why are all these famous historical bigwigs such chatterboxes, arguing all day long?!
Just like that, he becomes a librarian who has to double as a night guard and keep order in the library. Is it too late to quit?
*
Among all the bigwigs who disappear during the day and party through the night, one man seems especially lonely. He always stands quietly in a corner.
Chi Yu doesn't recognize his face either and assumes he's just some passerby who wandered in. He can't help looking at him with sympathy. It must be frightening to spend every day with a group of bigwigs. He might even get bullied all the time.
So, out of humanitarian concern, Chi Yu always pays extra attention to this poor, forlorn passerby whenever the crowd goes wild at night.
Bu Kun hugs a pillow, drapes a quilt over his shoulders, and curls his long legs up miserably in the corner. He looks just like a homeless beggar.
And this young man who looks like a student keeps gazing at him with the tender concern of a doting father. It really is beyond belief.
Bu Kun finds it amusing, hides his teasing, and blinks innocently. “Librarian, my stomach hurts. Could you give me a cup of hot water?”
Chi Yu: I'll give you anything you want, poor thing.
Until one day, Chi Yu accidentally sees a portrait at a military base. It depicts the commander of the Allied Forces during the wars of the last century, a man who won every battle and whose fame spread far and wide, but who died young.
Chi Yu, smiling silently: Why does this man look so damn familiar?
Bu Kun: Uh-oh. I'm done for. Didn't see that crash coming.
Chi Yu: You bastard!!! How long were you planning to deceive me?!
*Note: The title and some of the setting were inspired by the movie Night at the Museum.
P.S.
1. The top used a fake name at first, and almost no photos or portraits of him survived into later eras, so the bottom didn't recognize his real identity. The era in which the top lived is also in the future. He has no real-life counterpart, and no such person could exist.
2. For various reasons, all the historical figures in the story have fictional names. Some may resemble real people, but please don't treat them as historical figures. No historically sensitive figures will appear.
3. The story includes science fiction elements, all of them made up. Don't take them too seriously.
4. The top has an unusual form of existence. I can't spoil it, but it won't stop them from getting together.
