His Heart Sinks into Ruin

Fu Mengni had known since childhood that she had a pretty face, but not much in the way of brains. In the complicated Fu family, she was destined to be nothing but cannon fodder.

So once she came of age, she put all her little wits into finding a powerful patron to cling to, and after much careful selection, set her sights on Shen Loubai, the handsome, refined deputy general manager of Gu Group.

To learn everything she could about Shen Loubai, Fu Mengni swallowed her pride and tried every way she could think of to please his good friend, Gu Qingci, the president of Gu Group.

At a banquet, Gu Qingci’s gastritis flared up. She stepped forward fearlessly: “Brother Qingci, I’ll drink for you!” She wanted to learn about Shen Loubai’s romantic past.

When Gu Qingci caught the flu, she fussed over him: “Brother Qingci, I simmered this chicken soup for hours.” She wanted to learn about Shen Loubai’s hobbies.

When Gu Qingci was cornered by a seductress, she bravely came to his rescue: “Gu Qingci, I love you so much. Do you even have a heart?” She wanted to find out what Shen’s mother expected of a daughter-in-law.

Watching Gu Qingci grow gentler toward her by the day, Fu Mengni thought: Hope is just around the corner!

Gu Qingci thought: Fu Mengni is madly in love with me!

For his twenty-sixth birthday, he planned to announce that Fu Mengni was his girlfriend. But in the back garden, he saw the young woman bashfully confess, “Brother Shen, I like you!” Shen Loubai was so startled that he missed a step and fell into the pool.

Gu Qingci sneered and cornered the fickle woman against the wall. “Mengni, didn’t you love me most? Are you trying to use me and then cast me aside?”

Fu Mengni was completely baffled, and her mouth moved faster than her brain. “You’re the famously cold-faced demon king. Who would dare like you?”

So he even had a nickname. Gu Qingci pinched her delicate chin. “Mengni, you’re really something!”

Her whole body went soft, but she still insisted on putting up a front. “I mean... I’m all right?”
