Chen Shuyun is timid. As a woman living alone in an old residential neighborhood, she always gets home before dark.

But as a homeroom teacher in the new semester, she has evening study sessions three times a week and doesn't get off work until late at night.

When she hears that the new tenant next door is a police officer, she feels inexplicably safer.

This evening, something holds her up, and even the convenience store by the entrance has closed by the time she gets back.

Her heels click against the asphalt, especially loud in the silent night.

Even more alarming, heavy footsteps sound behind her, drawing closer and closer.

Just as she is about to run, a weight suddenly settles on her shoulder, sending scorching warmth through the fabric.

Chen Shuyun swiftly snatches up her bag and swings it at his head. "Come any closer and I'll call the police!"

When she comes to her senses, she realizes the man in front of her is wearing a police uniform.

Li Dongyang is nothing like his name suggests: he's not sunny at all. His face is sculpted, his features stern, and his thick brows sharp. In uniform, he looks even more serious.

His coworkers often tease him that if he got a tattoo sleeve, shaved his head, and put on a tank top, he could go undercover, and that nobody would dare walk around at night for fear of scaring the girls.

He used to take it as a joke, never thinking he'd really scare someone one day.

Chen Shuyun later thinks that Li Dongyang is not only fierce, but intense.

Li Dongyang, meanwhile, thinks Chen Shuyun is both timid and delicate.

He hasn't even started, and her eyes are already turning red.
