The second time Wensel saw him, she was holding a half-finished glass of milk and sitting on the rooftop railing. Below her stretched a sea of prosperous lights, flowing like a river. The wind howled and tossed her hair as she thought only of picking an auspicious day to jump.
She closed her eyes and fell. At the very last moment, someone caught her.
Wensel looked up. Once she recognized the person, she raised a hand and greeted him without expression. "Oh, it's you, Mr. Annoying Thief."
The man looked like a mild-mannered college student. His deep black eyes seemed to hold a flowing night. He wore blue earrings, and a bandage was wrapped around his forehead.
He looked at her for a long time before speaking. "After using your ability, I can't use Nen anymore."
Wensel knew why. Her Nen ability, [Equal Before All], could forcibly seal Nen. One limitation was that the ability had no effect on [Wensel Asatathes]. In other words, it worked on every user except her.
The girl thought for a moment, then asked him, "Do you think this comes with after-sales service?"
Chrollo: "Why not?"
Wensel realized at once that the man in front of her would probably become the biggest obstacle on her path to embracing death.
Wensel: "How about you stab me? Maybe my ability will disappear after I die."
Chrollo: "Are you sure Nen disappears after death?"
Wensel: "I'm sure."
The corners of his mouth stayed lifted, but he said nothing. Her reflection shone in his obsidian eyes... He clearly didn't believe her.
Wensel sighed.
Wensel: "I've never died before. How would I know?"
Wensel: "At worst, you just won't be able to use Nen for the rest of your life."
