Yuan Xi is a little chubby bird who has cultivated into a spirit. He’s beautiful and sweet-voiced, and he comes to human society to repay a debt of gratitude.
His benefactor’s descendant is Lu Zhiyu, the owner of an entertainment company, whose abstinence and coldness are downright maddening. A friend gives Yuan Xi some advice: You could start as an employee.
Yuan Xi goes to Lu Zhiyu’s company to audition as a singer. After getting hired, he runs straight to the big boss.
Yuan Xi: Can I stay by your side?
Lu Zhiyu: Do you want to be my canary?
Yuan Xi shakes his head.
He’s here to protect his benefactor’s descendant, as a cute little bird!
And so, CEO Lu Zhiyu starts living the life of a man who keeps a canary (and is protected by it).
Lu Zhiyu encounters supernatural forces on a business trip. Yuan Xi mysteriously gives him a lucky pouch: Put it under your pillow and you’ll sleep well!
When Lu Zhiyu opens it, there’s no talisman or cinnabar inside, just a clump of soft white and pale yellow feathers.
Lu Zhiyu: ?
A rival company stirs up trouble and lays a trap. Lu Zhiyu plans to turn the tables on them, but Yuan Xi drags him along to get revenge.
Yuan Xi, eager and excited: Let’s water their money tree to death! Ruin their wealth-attracting formation! Don’t let the God of Wealth come here!
Lu Zhiyu: ...Let’s handle this through legal channels.
His family pressures him to get married, and Lu Zhiyu plans to refuse. But Yuan Xi rushes over, carrying a pure white bird with a pale yellow beak.
Yuan Xi raises his hand: This is his and my child. It’s already two years old!
The little bird chirps, and Lu Zhiyu’s family gives him a disapproving look.
Lu Zhiyu is at a loss for words.
At a company press conference, Lu Zhiyu gives a speech, immaculate in his suit, with striking brows and deep-set eyes, handsome enough to take your breath away.
A reporter asks if President Lu is dating one of the company’s artists, keeping a canary, and has a child.
A chubby little white bird immediately pokes its head out of Lu Zhiyu’s pocket and enthusiastically greets the audience: Chirp!
The audience: So round!
The CEO pushes the little bird’s head back into his pocket.
That night, Lu Zhiyu corners a certain little bird at the door.
Lu Zhiyu, coolly: Canary? Child?
Yuan Xi obediently shakes his head.
Lu Zhiyu: Too late.
The CEO’s hand reaches down and touches the flat belly of a certain little bird.
Lu Zhiyu narrows his eyes.
You said it yourself. Now you have to give him one.
