Xiang Nanzhi visits an antique shop. The exquisite jade fails to catch her eye, but her gaze is drawn to an unassuming, timeworn porcelain piece in the corner.
On a wooden tag beside the plain white jade blank, a sentence is written:
Bound by love through three lifetimes, yet parted from Nanzhi again. A vow to the world: neither intrude nor disturb, and never fall in love.
She takes the porcelain home and even gives it a name.
She cares for it with great attention, but one day a crack appears out of nowhere, and in the end, it shatters into pieces.
Several years later, at an overseas auction, she encounters a rare white jade vessel. She accidentally misses her last chance to bid, and a Chinese-American man claims it.
After the sale, the man, dressed in a suit, stands tall and slender. He parts his lips and says, "A gentleman does not take what another person cherishes."
He offers to yield it to her and hands her his studio's business card.
Xiang Nanzhi's gaze falls on the name on the card: Wen Rensheng.
She looks up and unexpectedly meets the man's eyes. His Adam's apple bobs as he asks, "What's wrong?"
Xiang Nanzhi smiles but gives no answer.
Several years ago, she gave that porcelain piece the name "Wen Rensheng."
