A flirtatious building-block designer x a stoic, resilient former deputy chief of an anti-narcotics unit
When Xu Fengwen and her group walked into the guesthouse with their luggage, they happened to run into the owner coming downstairs.
It was the middle of summer. The man had just showered and was bare-chested. A long scar crossed his neatly defined abs, and half of a black belt hung loose at his waist. He had a pair of strong, long legs.
The owner was in his thirties, with a close-cropped haircut and remarkably upright, dignified features. He looked stern and righteous.
He was quiet and taciturn, with a cold air that seemed to warn all wanton seducers to keep their distance.
The young women in the group were all stunned, as if their eyes had been opened.
"What a tease," Xu Fengwen murmured, slowly exhaling a cloud of smoke. Instead of walking through the spacious lobby, she swayed her hips and squeezed past the owner, then sauntered upstairs.
Before she left, she even ordered him around. "Boss, my suitcase is by the door. Thanks."
Some of the group watched with gleeful anticipation, others with apprehension, all waiting for the man to yell at Xu Fengwen, the famously difficult beauty, until she cried.
But the man didn't say a word. He silently picked up her little leather suitcase with one hand and carried it upstairs.
That evening, everyone sat in a circle around the bonfire.
One busybody deliberately called out, "Sister Xiao Wen, did you manage to win over the owner of our guesthouse too?"
At once, every eye turned to the man sitting by himself, poking at the fire.
He seemed not to notice. He sat as straight and imposing as the snow-capped mountains behind him, his expression solemn, without so much as glancing sideways.
Xu Fengwen gave a mocking laugh, drawing out her words. "Oh, him? You're asking too late. I won him over eight years ago."
Everyone was stunned, then quickly perked up their ears. "You knew each other before?"
Xu Fengwen crossed her lovely legs and laughed coldly before raising her voice. "We dated. He bit my tongue too much when we kissed, so I dumped him!"
Everyone froze, then burst into laughter, knowing the woman was making up another wild story to tease them.
It was late. Xu Fengwen brushed the ash off her shawl and stood up to head back to the guesthouse.
As soon as she turned around, a dark figure lunged at her and pressed her down into the hay.
That night, someone bit her tongue hard.
"Li Yanhui, you bastard!" she shouted, spitting out the man's name.

Xu Fengwen never thought she would see that man again, the one she once believed would live only in her memories for the rest of her life.
After all these years apart, Li Yanhui still seemed like the snow on Changbai Mountain, untouched by time: silent and lonely.
Li Yanhui had never dared to imagine that, in this vast world of long roads and hurried travelers, there really was a woman who had waited for him for so, so many years.
