Waiting for the Wind to Land

Clearly, I'm not a qualified author. I've updated this story off and on for three years, and I still can't bring myself to continue. Maybe it's because I've always been a boring person. I've decided to lock the story and start over. Please forgive me.

Chen Anran has a secret: she waited seven years for Shen Xingye.

Chen Anran first met Shen Xingye on the morning of her first day of high school.

She'd lost a game, and her friends shoved her into the hallway.

Amid her classmates' teasing, she handed a note to the first boy she saw.

The girl's fingertips were pale as she clutched the note, and her lashes trembled nervously. "This is for you. It's just a game, so don't take it seriously."

Shen Xingye's heart softened for a moment. He took the note and walked away.

Chen Anran looked up and remembered only the kind boy's name: Shen Xingye.

Chen Anran crossed paths with Shen Xingye again in math class.

The boy pushed a draft notebook with the answers written in it toward her.

Chen Anran suddenly understood what it meant to fall in love at first sight, and to fall even harder the next time.

So she secretly loved him for three years, only to lose all contact with Shen Xingye the day before she planned to confess.

Seven years later, Chen Anran met Shen Xingye again during a routine hospital visit.

She pushed open the hospital room door and saw Shen Xingye lying dejectedly on the narrow bed.

With his unkempt beard, he looked nothing like the brash young man he had once been.

Hearing a sound, Shen Xingye angrily threw his water cup toward the doorway. His voice trembled. "Who are you?"

Chen Anran stood at the door, her face wet with tears. "I'm your attending physician. My name is Chen Anran."

Years later, Shen Xingye, now a bestselling author, suddenly asked Chen Anran:

"What would you have done if I hadn't regained my sight?"

Chen Anran put the vegetables in the pot, rose onto her tiptoes, and kissed the corner of his mouth.

"Then I would have been your eyes."
