Not long after the new emperor ascended the throne, Xue Li, a chief of the Embroidered Uniform Guard, was ordered to capture a wanted criminal from the previous dynasty. But on the way to Luozhou with his team, he was ambushed and fell into the water.
Three days later, Xue Li awoke from his coma and was surprised to learn that his rescuer was none other than Baili Ze, the legendary number one saber wielder under heaven.
In the days that followed, Baili Ze acted as he pleased, forcing Xue Li to accept him as his master and train in the saber arts. He forbade Xue Li from returning to court to report back.
At first, Xue Li refused to learn. But gradually, he discovered that Baili Ze was hiding far too many secrets. He was even an old acquaintance of Xue Li's superior in the Embroidered Uniform Guard, Fang Yinghui, a company commander in the Fourteenth Office of the Northern Garrison. And Fang Yinghui was none other than the mastermind who had ordered the ambush against him.
In the end, to complete his mission and uncover the truth, Xue Li decided to stay by Baili Ze's side for the time being and wait for the right moment to act. Unexpectedly, he was dragged into an even greater conspiracy alongside Baili Ze.
For instance, Xue Li discovers that the person currently sitting on the throne seems to be an "imposter cat."
"I thought dawn was almost here, but you're telling me the sun has only just set?"
A mysterious, unruly saber wielder (Baili Ze) x a cold-hearted imperial enforcer (Xue Li). One-on-one romance with a happy ending, and perhaps a political intrigue story that's only half-baked.
/Please read before starting/
1. Neither lead is chaste. Given their ages and the men’s circumstances in ancient times, it would be difficult for either of them to be.
2. This is a fictional setting. The dynasty in the story never existed in real history. I just thought the Ming dynasty's Embroidered Uniform Guard had a nice name, so I borrowed it.
3. The story shares the same broader setting as A Thousand Years. It takes place during the reign of Emperor Zhaoqing, father of Emperor Chengqian in A Thousand Years. The plots are completely independent, so it can be read on its own.
