“My name is Daina. I used to be a vampire hunter, but now I'm a vampire.
Consumed by an intense hatred, not long ago I killed the vampire who gave me my first bite, my ‘father,’ with my own hands, and inherited his castle.
But just last night, I unexpectedly came across the diary of my ‘father,’ Raphael Andries. It contained scattered accounts of his long life as a vampire.
To be honest, before reading this diary, I thought he had been born a demon. Now I don't think so.
Because it suddenly dawned on me that he might really have loved me.
He had once loved me so sincerely. His love was humble, twisted... He had thought about being with me, but by then, too much hatred lay between us.
So he used me, spending a full fifty years plotting a spectacular death for himself.
Just as his own ‘father’ had treated him.”
A hunter raised from childhood (Daina) x a crazed vampire (Raphael Andries), 1v1 + both die, which means a happy ending.
*Warning: a very strange premise. The blurb is from Daina's perspective. The first three chapters are written in the first person as “Raphael's Diary,” the next seven are in third person as “Memoirs of Daina's Late Wife,” and the final chapter is the ending, a letter from Daina to Raphael.
*This short story has an excessive amount of literary pretension, incoherent rambling, montage, and fragmented flashbacks. In short, it doesn't have much of anything sensible...
*Inspired by the lyrics of the song “The Last Vampire” by Bilibili creator Yi Zhi Wentongtong. Permission has been granted.
*I can't praise this brilliant lyricist enough.
