Ugly Freak

Xu Zhiyu is ugly.

Birthmarks cover half her face and extend from her neck to her shoulder. As a child, people would chase after her, shouting, "A monster! There's a monster!"

Xu Zhiyu knows she's ugly. She has never dared to hope for love.

Then she meets someone, a beautiful blind woman who says she has fallen in love with Xu Zhiyu's soul.

Xu Zhiyu says, "No one can ignore someone's appearance and fall in love with her soul."

The blind woman slips a hand around her waist, cups her face, and kisses the corner of her lips. "I can."

For the first time, someone is willing to kiss her without caring about her ugly face.

Xu Zhiyu believes her.

Later, the blind woman regains her sight. Xu Zhiyu anxiously waits for her to break up with her, but the woman only smiles and says, "What's ugly about you? You're beautiful."

Xu Zhiyu hugs her, almost in tears.

Later still, Xu Zhiyu accidentally hears the woman mocking her: "I called her pretty once and she actually believed me. She has no self-awareness at all."

Only then does Xu Zhiyu realize that what she thought was love was really just a lack of self-awareness.

Xu Zhiyu goes back to living alone, enduring the stares and ridicule she's grown used to.

It seems Cupid only pitied Xu Zhiyu for a little while.
