The heiress of the Arisu Corporation was rescued by an unknown person.
Just a second before her kidnappers could kill her, she had already resigned herself to being done for when someone scooped her up. Before she could thank them, a tremendous crash rang out, and the condemned building collapsed into rubble.
The ropes around her loosened, and Arisu Mirai was free. She immediately pulled down her blindfold, but in the hazy night she could only make out the rescuer's retreating silhouette.
Their brief encounter had given her little to go on. She could tell only that the person was male, dressed in a bespoke black suit, with bandages around his wrist, perhaps from an injury. Several rings adorned his fingers, and a triangular hard object was strapped to his waist. Chains jingled as he moved. His presence was cold, with a faint trace of blood in the air.
The standard mafia look, just like in the legends.
From then on, the girl whose hobbies were coffee jelly and making money developed a new aesthetic preference.

"I'm going to find my lifesaver in the mafia!" she announced to her online friend, a fellow coffee jelly fanatic whose username was Coffee Jelly Is the Best. The friend was obsessed with the deluxe, mega-sized coffee jelly made by her family. "So the new product's development will have to wait. I don't have time to think about coffee jelly right now."
Her friend was devastated by the news. Early the next morning, a package arrived for her, sent by Kusuo A. Dream.
Inside was a fully realistic simulation game called Mafia Life Simulator.
Arisu Mirai: ?
Online friend: The real mafia is too dangerous. You know nothing about that world, so why not try the game and learn about it before you go?
That sounded reasonable, so she agreed.
But the more she played, the more she felt something was off.
At least three of the romanceable characters were, in some way, just like her lifesaver.
*
As a dedicated grinder, she earned everyone's approval.
But in the end, every single one of them turned her down.
Their reasons included, but were not limited to:
The boss of a certain seafood company: I hope Mirai can always be happy, just like an "ordinary person."
The boss of a certain port corporation: I love an "ordinary person's" Mirai most of all!
A codename holder from a certain liquor company: Mirai is a very, very good girl, but there is no future for an "ordinary person" and the mafia.
A newly famous chain-wielding killer: I have no road left to take. All I can do is gaze up at the light from hell. I only wish you, an "ordinary person," a life of happiness and freedom from worry, with the blessings of your scarlet eyes always by your side.
After several playthroughs and one major failure after another, Arisu Mirai reviewed her results and finally understood: the idea of being well-matched applied to the mafia and ordinary people, too.
If that was the case, and establishing her own mafia organization in a new playthrough would take too long, she might as well just take out the boss and claim the top spot herself!

One day, with the mafia surrounding her on every side, Mirai cried, "My lifesaver? I can't tell them apart anymore! ><"
An unknown online friend watched the show while holding a mega-sized coffee jelly. "Do you remember this is actually a dating game?"
*Mirai is not an ordinary person.
