At nineteen, Sui Qiutian became Tang Hui's bodyguard.

Her young employer was only twenty-five at the time: a frail, refined “blind princess,” the least favored heir of the Tang Group. She had only recently returned from abroad when a car accident took her mother and maternal grandmother, leaving her to take over amid a nest of dangers.

Sui Qiutian knew nothing of the intrigue of high society. She only knew that her first duty was to keep Tang Hui safe.

As a bodyguard, she was stiff and taciturn, always reminding herself to keep her distance from her employer. She never ate at the same table as Tang Hui or addressed her by name, and she always walked one step behind her. She remained steadfast in her duty, too

When Tang Hui went to meet her archrival of a brother, Sui Qiutian stayed right outside, never leaving her post.

When Tang Hui was set up and caught in an accident, Sui Qiutian shielded her with her own body, bleeding across the ground.

Over seven years, Sui Qiutian became Tang Hui's most loyal ally and watched her grow from a frail “princess” into a “queen” surrounded by admirers.

Beside her, Xu Wentang straightened the white dress Kuang Lai had rolled in the mud until it was filthy, then played along with perfect poise. “Wifey, your dress needs washing.”

In high school, Kuang Lai bravely stepped up to deliver a love letter to the senior classmate her friend had a crush on. The girl was so frightened that she went to her best friend for help.

Her best friend, Xu Wentang, threw the letter into the trash, tapped Kuang Lai on the head without a hint of politeness, and said, “Kuang Lai, no dating before you're old enough.”

By eighteen, Kuang Lai still hated Xu Wentang.

Because twenty-one-year-old Xu Wentang was dressed to the nines, attracting admirers everywhere she went, and beautiful beyond compare.

At twenty-four, on the first day after her dreams fell through and she slunk back to her hometown, Kuang Lai ran into Xu Wentang.
