The Stars and the Stray Dog

When Shen Xingyu was fourteen, she went with her father to a winery celebration, where she met Qiao Yan, who was being bullied by a cruel servant.

In the vineyard, the boy lay sprawled at her feet, looking wretched. But his eyes were as dark and bright as lacquer, like the Cane Corso her father kept by his side.

A fierce dog could hurt people, and her father never let her get close. Shen Xingyu brought the boy home instead, longing for what she couldn't have.

Later, her father got a gentle, harmless schnauzer. Shen Xingyu transferred her affections, and came to despise Qiao Yan as well.

Three days later, a servant's negligence let the Cane Corso loose, and it mauled her new pet to death.

Taking her anger out on him, Shen Xingyu drove Qiao Yan out of the Shen family mansion.

The boy had just turned twelve. He had no parents and no relatives to turn to.

"Does Sister not like me anymore?"

In the snow, the boy's eyes and brows were red as plum blossoms against the white.

Shen Xingyu was cold. "Don't beg others for pity. My affection is worth nothing."

Ten years later, they crossed paths again. Qiao Yan had become a rising business tycoon, while Shen Xingyu's family had fallen apart. All she had left was an old dog that had been by her side for years.

Looking at the former "benefactor" who had fallen from grace, Qiao Yan smiled frivolously. "Beg me, Sis. My affection might still be worth a few bucks."
