Being Pathetic

Xia Futu's father died when she was fourteen, leaving her beautiful mother with no one to rely on. Then the Lin father and son entered their lives.

The old man surnamed Lin had lost his wife. He clung to the image of a devoted widower and never remarried, all while keeping his first love, Xia Futu's mother, as a mistress. The old bastard sent her to an elite school, then introduced her to seventeen-year-old Lin Sheng, holding his hand as he said:

"Just think of him as an older brother you can rely on."

Then Lin Sheng's admirers drenched her head with dirty water in the girls' bathroom.

[He's a bastard...]

As she watched her brother silently wipe her face, suppressing his disgust, Futu suddenly understood.

He really was a bastard.

Like father, like son. He'd fall for the same kind of woman.

On the day Futu arrived at university at eighteen, Lin Sheng had an assistant deliver a set of apartment keys to her. He said:

"You don't have to mix with them."

Holding the keys, Futu thought:

Anyone will do. She would study hard, find a man more capable than him, and leave this bastard behind.
