A Match Made in Heaven in Dream of the Red Chamber

After Virtuous Consort Jia Yuanchun dies, the Jia family is left teetering on the brink.

Not long afterward, Grandmother Jia passes away. Lin Daiyu is still lost in grief over her grandmother when the Jia family arranges for Jia Baoyu to marry Xue Baochai, sealing their fated match. Distraught and in despair, Lin Daiyu has no idea what lies ahead.

Then, just months later, the Jia family is raided. With help from an old friend of her father's, Daiyu, a daughter of the Lin family, escapes disaster, but from then on she is adrift, like duckweed on the water.

She plans to return to her ancestral home in Suzhou with Zijuan and Xueyan. If the day comes when she passes away, at least she will be with her parents.

On the way south, she travels under the protection of Mu Lin, the Marquis of Zhennan, whom she had met once before and who is responsible for the Jia family raid.

As they journey together, Mu Lin is drawn to Daiyu. One is a powerful marquis, the other a fallen daughter of a distinguished family. Their paths lead from the capital to Jiangnan, and then from Jiangnan back to the capital.

Daiyu never imagined she would marry anyone but Baoyu. But who can say what the future holds? Once she leaves the Jia family and looks back, perhaps the love she felt as a girl was simply the comfort they found in each other within the walls of a great household. Now they are each going their own way.
