Four Meals in the Mountains

[A slice-of-life farming story] [My next farming novel, What Is There to Do in the Mountains? If you’re interested, feel free to take a look. A bow of thanks] [Blurb] Cen Ning, a young man from the Cen family, marries Lu Yunchuan, a farmer from the neighboring village, and becomes his husband. A few little houses by the mountains, a few mu of fields, and the everyday farming life of two people, living on firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar, and tea. Four seasons in a year, three meals a day. After the spring rain, they dig up a basket of spring bamboo shoots and cook a bowl of fragrant, fresh bamboo shoot soup. The soup is white, the shoots are yellow, the cured pork is red, and tender green scallions are sprinkled on top. In summer, they cut open a red-oil salted duck egg on the stone table. Its yolk is rich and sandy, and with refreshing lotus leaf porridge, it makes the heat fade away. In mid-autumn, they nourish themselves with a rich old duck soup. Once it boils, they add a handful of goji berries. It’s piping hot, and the duck meat is so tender that it falls off the bone at the slightest touch of chopsticks. In the twelfth lunar month, snow blankets the mountaintops. Outside, the ground is frozen and the north wind howls. Inside, the fire burns bright. As the firewood crackles, they eat a bowl of glossy, savory rice steamed with cured pork. 1. [The writing is episodic, with few twists, and you could even say there’s no real plot. It’s simply the ordinary, peaceful life of a farming family.] 2. This isn’t a wish-fulfillment story. The protagonist remains a farmer throughout; he doesn’t strike it rich and move to the county seat. 3. [The living conditions in this story are completely idealized and unrealistic, with a pile of plot holes!!!! I apologize in advance if this affects your reading experience.] 4. There are a few awful characters, but they’re rare and cowardly. Later on, there will be a baby. Theme: Treasure food
