Plucking the Zither

"Guqin Beauty X Cunning Mogul"

Xie Mingyu first meets Wen Zheng at an elder's birthday banquet.

Her dark hair is pinned up, and she wears a jade-colored qipao. Elegant and ethereal, she plays High Mountains and Flowing Water in the hall.

Her slender fingers pluck the strings, and then... she hits a wrong note.

Their eyes meet. A flash of panic crosses her dark eyes, but she forces herself to stay calm and continues playing.

Later, in a secluded corner of a banquet hall, Xie Mingyu catches Wen Zheng arguing with a rich playboy.

"Zhengzheng, listen to me. She's my sister."

"Your mouths were practically touching. What kind of sister is that?"

She insists on breaking up, but the playboy won't leave her alone.

Xie Mingyu has no intention of getting involved until Wen Zheng flees in a panic, twists her ankle, and knocks him down the stairs.

They end up in the hospital together as fellow orthopedic patients.

Wen Zheng: Sorry QAQ

Feeling guilty, Wen Zheng volunteers to look after him, checking in on him and coming whenever he calls.

Three months later, Xie Mingyu's leg has healed.

Wen Zheng is just about to bow out, having done her part, when Xie Mingyu blocks her at the stairwell.

He circles his fingers around her slender wrist, his eyes dark and low. "Miss Wen, why don't you knock me down again?"

Wen Zheng: ???
