A Hungry Reader's Recommendations for Western Fantasy BL
Updated very irregularly (meaning, whenever I find something good to read). I’ve made peace with not finding any knight bottoms (serenity). This isn’t a list for any particular preference. It includes Western fantasy and gay romance (heart).
So Good It'll Make You Grin from Ear to Ear
I love feel-good stories that are fun and easy to read. No amateurish writing, implausible plots, melodramatic messes, or angst-inducing drama. Some got four stars because I couldn't give them more.
Million-Word Plot-Driven Epics
Long, million-word-plus novels I've subscribed to, mostly plot-driven and with unlimited-flow settings. Any pairing is fine: BL, BG, or no romance. All complete, and I've read most of them.
Boys' Love
The path to kingship. The path of ruler and subject. The people’s path. I forge ahead on my own road.
Underrated Gems That Hit the Spot (Add More When I Remember)
Some lesser-known, or not-so-lesser-known, books I've read. Any genre. Most have emotionally stable male or female leads. Check for your own likes and dislikes.
Fantasy Pure Love I
This list is full. I'll add new books to Fantasy Danmei II, so feel free to follow it.
Only High-Rated Long Danmei Novels for Me
I like longer books with strong storytelling. The top and bottom are usually a powerful team. Since I can't give five stars, three stars means pretty good, and four means an explosive recommendation.
Personal List: Top-Focused Stories
Pretty good. I enjoy romances born from the clash of very different personalities, but sure enough, I will always favor gentlemen and martyrs.
Stories with Uke-Focused Romance and Uke-Centric Protagonists
A collection for my own use.
World-Building and Farming Stories
Knowledge changes destiny, and technology changes the world!
Western Fantasy | Alternate Worlds | Western Settings
I’m not picky at all. I’ll read any pairing or POV, and if something catches my interest, I’ll try it even if the comments clearly warn that it’s a disaster. But I’m very stingy with ratings.
BL: Western Fantasy, Bottom Lead
BL Western fantasy novels with a shou protagonist that I've read
Management, Farming, and Infrastructure (Original Fiction)
Romance, danmei, and no-CP stories. Some are great, some are just okay.
Stories I Like with Fresh, Original Worldbuilding
Recording books I like. Four stars means five stars.
Completed Stories I've Read
Most are danmei. I don’t read much het romance.
Worth Revisiting
There's probably a bit of everything here. The quality may be uneven, but each one has something that really gets me. Even when I'm not short on things to read, I still want to revisit them again and again.
Danmei, Shou-Centric
Danmei with a shou protagonist that I thought were decent, and that I've read on both my main and alt accounts. Jinjiang not letting you rate a novel after giving out too many five-star ratings is ridiculous. I'll add books from time to time.
Beautiful Men 1: A Gay Reader Recommends These Starved-for-Gay-Romance Stories
After years on Jinjiang, I’ve collected all kinds of popular and obscure pretty-boy-1 stories here, with both top and bottom protagonists. I’ve added some lesser-known ones too. Please share your pretty-boy-1 stories with me, I’m begging you!
Good Reads
Just what the title says
BL Political Intrigue
A collection of political intrigue and conquest stories.
Original BL, Mutual Devotion, Bottom Lead, Complete
Completed novels I've read so far with no major dealbreakers. Five stars means the plot is complete and the romance is great, and I felt thoroughly satisfied when I finished. Four stars are a notch below.
