Ji Zhaozhao, an ordinary girl, unexpectedly transmigrated into a world of cultivation where demons and monsters ran rampant and Touken Ranbu was real. Just as she was about to die, someone picked her up and took her in.
Ji Zhaozhao fell in love with the person who had taken her in, the one who later became her master.
She also became the only disciple personally accepted by the Demon Venerable of the Demon Realm, as well as the young mistress of the Demon Palace.
Though no one in the Demon Realm liked this ordinary, timid girl, and everyone looked down on someone who turned pale at the sight of blood, Ji Zhaozhao stayed because she had her master.
Later, her master took on a new junior sister.
The new girl wore red, bold as fire. Unlike Ji Zhaozhao, who was timid and careful, she was spoiled, unruly, and fearless. Everyone in the Demon Realm adored her.
Her master adored her too.
As the gentle, caring looks that had once encouraged Ji Zhaozhao to stay grew fewer day by day, she risked everything and did the bravest thing she'd done since arriving in this world:
She confessed to her master.
Her master's gaze held a trace of mockery, but, unexpectedly, he didn't reject her.
Her status changed from the young mistress of the Demon Palace to... his lover.
Her master was more than just her master. He was the ruler of the entire Demon Realm, the king of the Demon Palace, the Demon Venerable.
The Demon Venerable had countless lovers of every sort, and every one of them was better than Ji Zhaozhao.
She became the laughingstock of the entire Demon Realm. They laughed that she'd given up her status as young mistress to offer herself to him, that she was born shameless, that she deserved what she got.
She desperately hoped her master, who had accepted her, would stand up for her. But the lofty Demon Venerable merely asked her coolly, "Is that not what you are?"
His words shattered the deep affection and love she'd imagined for herself, as well as the lies she'd told herself. She put an end to this absurd relationship and left the Demon Palace.
Ji Zhaozhao left.
Ji Zhaozhao's soul lamp went out.
The boundary stele of the Demon Realm shattered, and she gave her life to mend it.
That day, the Demon Palace collapsed. The arrogant Demon Venerable was buried beneath it. When his subordinates found him, his cultivation had been completely destroyed, and he was carefully clutching an extinguished soul lamp.
Later, word spread that Lord Qishan, the light of the righteous path, had taken on a new disciple, a rare talent with extraordinary gifts who cultivated the seldom-seen Heartless Dao.
Her name was Ji Zhaozhao.
1. The breakup happens from the start. Her devoted pursuit is glossed over, with the emphasis on the regret-and-redemption arc.
2. The Demon Venerable is tentatively the male lead. Most likely the male lead won't change, but there's a small chance he will.
3. Includes a melodramatic amnesia trope.
